Straight answers

Conservatives aged 18 through 40 with a real connection to Grayson County — you live here, work here, go to school here at Austin College or Grayson College, or you are here often enough that this county's decisions land on you. You should agree with the general principles of the Republican Party. That is the whole test.

Nothing today. This site does not take a payment and we are not quoting a number we have not voted on. Dues will be set by the founding members at our first meeting, and the amount will be posted here in plain figures the day it is decided. If dues would ever be the reason you could not join, tell us — that is a solvable problem and it always has been.

Our meeting schedule is being set now. Every date, time and address we confirm goes straight onto the events calendar, which you can subscribe to at /calendar.ics so it lands in your own phone calendar. Join the club or the email list and you will hear about the first meeting before it is public.

No. Most of our members will be none of those things when they walk in. Precinct chairs, delegates and convention seats are things you can grow into here, and we will explain how each of them works — but nothing about them is a requirement to join, to vote in this club, or to run for one of its offices.

No. We are an independent club. The county party is the official party organization that runs the primary and the precinct conventions; we work alongside it, volunteer at its events, and stay a separate organization with our own members, officers and decisions. We do not speak for the county party and it does not speak for us.

Not yet. We are organizing to affiliate with the Young Republicans of Texas — that takes a founding membership, elected officers, adopted bylaws and a charter granted by the state organization, and we are working through those in order. Until a charter is granted we will not claim one. When it is granted, we will say so here with the date.

Voting membership is 18 to 40; that is what makes it a Young Republicans club. But there is always work, and plenty of it is done by people outside that range — sponsors, hosts, speakers, drivers, and the people who quietly know everybody in the county. How supporting or associate roles are structured is one of the things the founding members will decide in the bylaws. In the meantime, tell us you want in and we will find you something real to do.

We have not endorsed anyone, and whether this club endorses at all is a decision for its members under bylaws that do not exist yet. What we can tell you now: any endorsement would be a recorded vote of the membership, announced on this site, and never something an officer hands out on the club's behalf on their own.

Business first and briefly — what we are doing, who is doing it, when. Then a speaker or a topic worth an hour: an elected official, a candidate, a county staffer, somebody who can explain how a piece of Grayson County really works. Then the part that matters, which is people staying afterward to talk. Come as you are; nobody is checking your shoes.
